Course Overview
The ability to communicate effectively at all levels in the ruminant feed sector requires a thorough understanding of both the animal production and animal feed industries. This module will develop in students a thorough understanding of dairy, beef and sheep industries and the major systems associated with production of ruminant products in the UK. It will also inculcate an awareness of the structure and operational characteristics of the ruminant feed industry and both the national and international factors affecting both raw material supply and inclusion in ruminant diets.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the Ruminant Animal Production and Feed Industry course participants will be able to:
- Assess the size and structure of different sectors of the ruminant livestock production industry and the market for ruminant products.
- Critically evaluate the main milk, meat and wool production systems used in the UK and the physical and financial factors affecting system performance.
- Critically evaluate the major internal and external factors affecting the demand and supply of ruminant products.
- Assess the size, structure, and operational characteristics of the UK ruminant feed industry.
- Appraise national and international factors affecting effecting both raw material supply and inclusion in ruminant diets.
